What the sales representatives blanket bond covers

A sales representatives blanket bond lets a private business or vocational school cover all of its sales representatives under a single bond, instead of filing a separate bond for each person who solicits or enrolls students. It backs honest conduct by those representatives in their dealings with prospective students.

This form traces back to the prior Private Business and Vocational Schools Act (105 ILCS 425), which the Illinois State Board of Education administered and which conditioned sales-representative permits on a bond — schools could file one blanket bond covering all of their reps. That Act was repealed effective February 1, 2012, when oversight moved to the IBHE.

The current Private Business and Vocational Schools Act of 2012 (105 ILCS 426) does not separately license sales representatives or, on its face, require a sales-representative bond. So treat this as a legacy or holdover requirement — confirm with whoever is asking whether you actually need it before you buy. If you do, we issue it at a flat 3% with no credit check.

Legacy form — verify before buyingThe Private School Sales Representatives Blanket Bond derives from the former Private Business and Vocational Schools Act (105 ILCS 425), repealed effective February 1, 2012 when oversight transferred from the Illinois State Board of Education to the Illinois Board of Higher Education. The current Act (105 ILCS 426) and 23 Ill. Adm. Code 1095 do not appear to impose a separate sales-representative bond. We will gladly issue this bond, but confirm with the requesting authority that it is still required of you and in what amount — we would rather you not buy a bond you do not need.

FAQs

Common questions.

If yours isn't here, the bond team can usually answer within the hour.

Does Illinois still require this bond? +
Not clearly. It traces back to the former Private Business and Vocational Schools Act (105 ILCS 425), repealed in 2012. The current 2012 Act (105 ILCS 426) does not separately license sales representatives or, on its face, require a sales-rep bond. Treat it as a legacy form and confirm with whoever is asking before you buy.
What is a "blanket" bond? +
It covers all of a school’s sales representatives under one bond, rather than requiring a separate bond for each individual rep — simpler and cheaper than bonding people one at a time.
How much is it? +
A flat 3% of the bond amount, with a $275 minimum. Because this is a legacy form with no single current statutory figure, you enter whatever amount you were asked for and the quote updates.
Is there a credit check? +
No — this bond is issued with no credit pull. Larger bond amounts may get a quick soft-pull review, which never affects your credit score.
What if I just need the school’s tuition bond instead? +
Many schools only need the IBHE student-tuition bond today — our Private Business and Vocational School bond. If you are not sure which you need, send us the request and we will point you to the right one.
