The City of Lockport requires every contractor to deposit a $20,000 bond with the Building Department before it issues a certificate of registration. Ours is $100 flat — the price you see at checkout is the price you pay, the same for every contractor. The application collects no credit information.

A municipal registration bond is among the simplest bonds we issue. Here is the whole process:
Business details and an effective date — that is the application. No financials, no credit section on this bond’s form.
Registration bonds like this are among the thousands of bond types that issue right after purchase. At most, 1–2 business days.
Your executed bond and power of attorney arrive by email, ready to file with your Building Department contractor registration or renewal. Wet-ink original mailed on request.
The City of Lockport’s Building Department requires every contractor to deposit a $20,000 bond, approved by the city’s corporate authorities, before it issues a certificate of registration — the bond is separate from the city’s own annual registration fee.
It’s a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and the City of Lockport (the obligee). The bond indemnifies the City against loss, cost, damage, judgment, or liability arising from a contractor’s work or a violation of city ordinances — so Lockport isn’t left absorbing the cost of a job a contractor walked away from.
It is not insurance for you. If the City makes a valid claim and the surety pays, you repay the surety. Registration runs on an annual cycle — certificates expire on the anniversary of issuance, so we track your renewal date and notify you ahead of it.
These are the actual issuing fields — no credit section, because this bond doesn’t have one.
