For that standard category, DoTH requires a $20,000 surety bond, lower than the $50,000 bond required of pipeline, cable, and other private-utility work.
It's a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and Cook County (the obligee), with the county and the traveling public as the protected parties. The bond remains in full force until DoTH releases it in writing, and stands behind proper restoration of the right of way once your work is complete.
