About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the Pocatello contractor bond guarantees

Pocatello requires every construction trades contractor to register with the City and obtain the certifications or licenses set in its code before working for compensation in the city. Beyond Class A-1 ($50,000) and Class A-2 ($25,000), the City’s other classes — such as Building Class B and similar trades — carry a $10,000 bond.

It is a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety, and the City of Pocatello (the obligee). The bond guarantees you will comply with the City’s building code and contractor ordinance; a harmed party or the City can recover against it up to $10,000.

The City of Pocatello must also be named as an additional insured on your liability coverage. The bond stays active for the life of your registration; we track it and notify you 60 and 30 days out so it never lapses.

Pocatello Municipal Code 15.03.020Pocatello Municipal Code 15.03.020 (Licenses / Registration Required; Fees) conditions a City contractor license on registration and a surety bond, with the bond amount set by class. The City’s other classes (e.g. Building Class B) require a $10,000 bond; confirm your class’s amount and forms with the Pocatello Building Department.

FAQs

Common questions.

If yours isn't here, the bond team can usually answer within the hour.

How much is the Pocatello contractor bond for the other classes? +
The premium is $300 — a flat 3% of the fixed $10,000 bond amount, the same for every contractor in these classes. The $10,000 is set by the City, so there is no quote process.
Do I pay the $10,000? +
No. You pay $300. The $10,000 is the surety’s maximum liability if a valid claim is made against the bond — not a deposit.
Which classes does this $10,000 bond cover? +
Pocatello sizes the bond by class: Class A-1 is $50,000, Class A-2 is $25,000, and the other classes (e.g. Building Class B and similar trades) are $10,000. Use the bond matching the class on your registration.
Is there a credit check? +
No — the application has no credit section. This fixed contractor license bond is issued without a credit pull.
Where do I file it? +
With the City of Pocatello Building Department, alongside your contractor registration. Remember the City must also be named as an additional insured on your liability coverage.
