What the bond actually guarantees
Savannah's Code of Ordinances, Article BB (Escorts and Escort Services) of the business-and-occupations part, licenses any person or business who furnishes or offers to furnish escorts or introduction services for pay. Section 6-2407 conditions those licenses on a $5,000 surety bond, filed with the application.
It's a three-party arrangement: you or your business (the principal), the surety carrier, and the Mayor and Aldermen of the City of Savannah (the obligee). The bond backs compliance with the escort-licensing ordinance; if a licensed escort or escort service violates the ordinance and a valid claim results, it can be brought against the bond up to the $5,000 penal sum.
It is not insurance for you — if the surety pays a claim, you repay the surety. Under the ordinance, a license issued in a given year runs through December 31 of that year, so the license — and this bond — is renewed annually.
