About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the bond actually guarantees

Augusta-Richmond County (the consolidated City of Augusta and Richmond County government) licenses transient and itinerant vendors — sellers who set up temporarily rather than operating from a fixed local storefront — and conditions that license on a $5,000 surety bond. The bond is a consumer-protection guarantee.

It's a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier standing behind you, and Augusta-Richmond County together with harmed customers (the protected parties). If a vendor takes a customer's money and fails to deliver, or violates the county's vendor rules, the harmed party can recover against the bond.

It is not insurance for you — if the surety pays a claim, you repay the surety. Vendors who deliver what they sell treat the bond as a license formality, not a risk. We track it and notify you 60 and 30 days out so your vendor license never lapses over a missed renewal.
