About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the Amicalola EMC utility deposit bond actually guarantees

Like most Georgia electric membership corporations (EMCs), Amicalola EMC requires new commercial and industrial members to secure their account with a cash security deposit before service begins, sized to the risk of an unpaid final bill. The Cooperative’s own rules let the member post a surety bond instead of tying up that cash.

It is a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and Amicalola EMC (the obligee). If your account goes unpaid, the Cooperative can claim against the bond up to the deposit amount it required, and if the surety pays the claim, you repay the surety. This is a private contractual requirement of the Cooperative — not a Georgia statute or a Public Service Commission rule.

The amount is set by Amicalola EMC, typically as a multiple of the location’s average or estimated monthly bill, and can be adjusted for new construction or a change in usage. Enter the figure your account requires; we price the bond from a $100 minimum, and the application collects no credit information.

Amicalola EMC Rules and Regulations — not a Georgia statuteAmicalola Electric Membership Corporation’s own Rules and Regulations, not a state law, set the security deposit a commercial or industrial member must post before new service begins and permit a surety bond in place of that cash deposit. If the bond is later cancelled, a cash deposit becomes due immediately in an amount the Cooperative determines. Confirm your exact required amount with Amicalola EMC before applying.

You need this bond if you are

An existing member the Cooperative has asked to post or increase a security deposit
A business at a newly constructed location where usage history is estimated rather than actual
A member switching from a cash deposit to a bond to free up working capital

FAQ

Common questions.

What amount should I enter?Enter the deposit amount Amicalola EMC quoted you — commonly a multiple of your location’s average or estimated monthly bill for commercial and industrial accounts. If you are unsure, check your service agreement or ask the Cooperative before applying.
What does the bond guarantee? It guarantees payment to Amicalola EMC if your account goes unpaid, up to the deposit amount the Cooperative required. If the surety has to pay a claim, you are responsible for repaying the surety — it is a credit backstop for the Cooperative, not insurance for you.
Where do I file it?Submit your executed bond directly to Amicalola EMC in place of the cash security deposit it would otherwise require. It arrives by email, ready to send along with your service application.
Do I pay the full bond amount? No. You pay a one-time premium — 2% of the bond amount, $100 minimum — not the deposit amount itself. That is the entire advantage over a cash deposit, which ties up the full sum.
Is there a credit check? The application collects no credit information, and most applications approve instantly. Larger commercial or industrial amounts may get a brief underwriter review; if a check ever runs, it is a soft pull that will not touch your score.
