About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the bond actually guarantees

Part XV of Chapter 627 of the Florida Statutes governs insurance premium finance companies — businesses that advance the premium on a policy and collect it back from the insured in installments — licensed through the Office of Insurance Regulation. Under § 627.828, every licensee must maintain a net worth of $35,000; a company with a net worth of $10,000 may instead file a $35,000 surety bond or other collateral acceptable to the office, and keep it in force for as long as it relies on the alternative.

It's a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and the state. The bond stands in for the capital cushion the statute would otherwise demand — financial security that the company conducts its premium finance business in accordance with Part XV, protecting the insureds and insurers who move money through your agreements.

It is not insurance for you — if the surety pays a claim, you repay the surety. The bond must be maintained continuously while you rely on it in lieu of the full net-worth showing; we track the term and send renewal notices 60 and 30 days out.

Fla. Stat. § 627.828Section 627.828 of the Florida Statutes, in the premium finance company part of the insurance code (Part XV of Chapter 627), requires every licensed premium finance company to maintain a net worth of $35,000 — and permits a company with a net worth of $10,000 to file a surety bond or other acceptable collateral in the amount of $35,000 with the office instead, which must be maintained for as long as the company relies on it. Premium finance companies are licensed and regulated by the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation.

FAQ

Common questions.

How much is the Florida premium finance company bond? The premium is $350 flat — set by our carrier's rate book for this bond, the same for every premium finance company. The $35,000 bond amount is set by Fla. Stat. § 627.828, so there is no quote process, and the price you see is the checkout price.
Do I pay the $35,000?No. You pay $350. The $35,000 is the surety's maximum liability if a valid claim is made against the bond — not a deposit, and nobody holds your money.
Do I need the bond if my net worth is $35,000 or more?No — the statute treats the bond as the alternative. A company that maintains a $35,000 net worth satisfies § 627.828 outright; a company with a $10,000 net worth files the $35,000 bond or other approved collateral instead.
How fast will I have the bond? This bond is checkout-priced, so it issues the moment you pay — your e-signed bond and power of attorney arrive by email, ready to file with your license. Any credit screen is a soft pull only, never a hard inquiry.
Who requires the bond, and where do I file it?The Florida Office of Insurance Regulation, which licenses premium finance companies under Part XV of Chapter 627. The bond or collateral is filed with the office and maintained for as long as you rely on it in lieu of the full net-worth showing.
Which A-rated carriers underwrite these bonds?Typically Arch Insurance Company (A.M. Best A+) or Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company (A.M. Best A). Which one writes your bond depends on the bond type and your state. The carrier's name and official signature are printed on the bond you receive.
How do I contact Light RFP about this bond?Email insurance@lightrfp.com. It reaches the bond team at Light RFP Risk Management Services LLC (NY DFS License # PC-1978982). Write to us about quotes, applications, bond forms or certificates. We will respond within 24 hours.
