Florida excess size & weight bonds.
From $100.

When you move an oversize or overweight load on Florida roads under a special permit, the Florida Department of Transportation can require a surety bond as a financial guarantee (Fla. Stat. §316.550). The FDOT sets the bond amount; our premium is 1% of the bond amount, $100 minimum — priced by your bond amount, not a credit tier.

About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the excess size & weight bond covers

An oversize or overweight vehicle may not operate on a Florida public road without a special permit from the appropriate jurisdiction. Fla. Stat. §316.550 governs those permits — including FDOT blanket permits, which can run up to 36 months with an annualized fee capped at $500.

When the FDOT conditions a permit on a surety bond, the bond is a financial guarantee that you will comply with the permit’s routing, load, and safety terms and will answer for any damage your oversize or overweight movements cause to public roads or infrastructure.

It is not insurance for you. If the FDOT pays out on the bond for road damage or a permit violation, you repay the surety. The premium is 1% of the bond amount, $100 minimum — priced by your bond amount, not a credit tier; the application collects no credit information. Bond amounts are set by the department, so confirm the figure on your permit notice.

Fla. Stat. §316.550 (oversize/overweight permits)Fla. Stat. §316.550 governs operation of vehicles not in conformity with size and weight limits and the issuance of special permits by the FDOT. The department may issue blanket permits for up to 36 months (annualized fee not to exceed $500) and may condition a permit on a surety bond as a financial guarantee. The required amount is set by the FDOT — confirm it on your permit notice.
