About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the disposal charges bond actually covers

Brevard County operates its solid waste system through Brevard County Solid Waste Management, including the Central Disposal Facility and the County’s transfer stations. Any commercial business that disposes of waste there must open a landfill gate account and make a security deposit in cash, a surety bond or a letter of credit, so unpaid disposal fees are covered.

A surety bond posted as that deposit stands behind the disposal charges on your account. If the account goes unpaid, the County can recover the unpaid disposal fees against the bond — so the County never carries the credit risk of your tonnage.

You (the principal) post the bond, an A-rated surety stands behind it, and Brevard County is the obligee, the party the bond protects. We issue the amount the County set, pricing from $100 with no credit information collected in the application, so you can keep your landfill gate account open.

Brevard County Code §94-277(b), as amended by Ord. No. 24-12 (2024)Section 94-277 requires any commercial entity that disposes of solid waste at the County’s solid waste management facilities to open a landfill gate account and make a security deposit. The deposit equals two months of estimated disposal fees, based on estimated tonnage and type of waste, or the minimum set by the Board’s special rate resolution. It may be cash, a surety bond or a letter of credit.
