About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the bond actually guarantees

A city contractor license bond is a compliance-and-consumer-protection guarantee. The City of Mena conditions a local contractor license on a $20,000 bond so that work done in the city follows the building code and city ordinances — and so customers and the city have a financial backstop if a licensed contractor causes harm.

It's a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and the City of Mena (the obligee), with customers and the public as the protected parties. If a contractor violates the city's contractor or building ordinances and someone is harmed, they can recover against the bond.

The bond must stay active for the life of your city license. Let it lapse and the city can suspend your ability to pull permits — so we track it and notify you 60 and 30 days out, keeping your $20,000 filing continuous. It is not insurance for you: if the surety pays a claim, you repay the surety.

City of Mena, AR — contractor license bondThe City of Mena, Arkansas requires a $20,000 surety bond as a condition of its city contractor license; the $20,000 amount and the bond terms are set by the City (administered through City Hall / the building or permit department). The bond amount is fixed at $20,000 on the application. (No ordinance number is cited here because Mena's contractor-licensing provisions are not published online in a verifiable form — we will not invent one. This city bond is separate from any Arkansas state contractor license bond you may also need.)

FAQs

Common questions.

If yours isn't here, the bond team can usually answer within the hour.

How much is the City of Mena contractor license bond? +
The premium is $600 — a flat 3% of the fixed $20,000 bond amount, the same for every contractor. The $20,000 is set by the City of Mena, so there is no quote process.
Do I pay the $20,000? +
No. You pay $600. The $20,000 is the surety's maximum liability if a valid claim is made against the bond — not a deposit, and nobody holds your money.
Is this the same as the Arkansas state contractor bond? +
No. This is the City of Mena’s local license bond, filed with the city. Arkansas also licenses commercial and certain residential contractors at the state level with its own bond — if a project needs both, you may carry the state bond as well. Send us the requirement and we’ll confirm.
Is there a credit check? +
Not on this bond — the application has no credit section at all. Small fixed-amount license bonds like this one don't need one.
When does it renew? +
The bond must stay active for as long as you hold the city license. You can buy a 1, 2, or 3-year term; we send renewal notices 60 and 30 days out, with autopay available, so your license never lapses over a missed email.
