About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the records bond actually covers

Arizona lets private businesses act as authorized third parties for the Motor Vehicle Division — handling motor vehicle records, registrations, titles, and related services that the Division would otherwise perform. A.R.S. § 28-5104 conditions that authorization on a surety bond running to the State of Arizona as obligee.

The bond is conditioned that the authorized third party will faithfully comply with the provisions of law governing its authorization, and protects the state and the public against failures in that duty. It must be noncancellable without at least sixty days’ prior notice to the director, so coverage cannot lapse without warning.

This entry is the sole proprietor / partnership version of the records bond — there is a separate form for corporations and LLCs. The amount depends on the service you are authorized for; ADOT names it on your authorization. We issue whatever amount applies at a flat 3% with no credit check.

A.R.S. § 28-5104 (authorized third party bond)A.R.S. § 28-5104 requires an applicant for authorized third-party status to file a surety bond with the State of Arizona as obligee, conditioned on faithful compliance with the law and noncancellable without at least sixty days’ notice to the director. Title and registration service providers post at least $100,000 per location; other services (and certain inspection providers) carry smaller amounts. Confirm the figure on your ADOT authorization.
