About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the bond actually guarantees

A city permitting-contractor bond is a compliance guarantee to the municipality. The City of Mobile wants a financial backstop that contractors who pull permits follow the city's building codes, permit conditions, and ordinances.

It's a three-party arrangement: you (the principal), the surety carrier, and the City of Mobile (the obligee). If a contractor violates the city's code or permit terms and the city or a harmed party suffers a loss, they can recover against the $10,000 bond.

It is not insurance for you — if the surety pays a claim, you repay the surety. The bond must stay active for as long as you hold permitting privileges, so we track it and notify you 60 and 30 days out.

City of Mobile — permitting contractor requirementThe City of Mobile requires this $10,000 surety bond as a condition of its permitting contractor license; the bond amount and terms are set by the City of Mobile. We have not cited a specific ordinance number here because the requirement is administered by the City of Mobile permitting/building office rather than published as a fixed statutory citation — confirm the exact filing details with the city.

FAQs

Common questions.

If yours isn't here, the bond team can usually answer within the hour.

How much is the City of Mobile permitting contractor bond? +
The premium is $300 — a flat 3% of the $10,000 bond amount, the same for every contractor. The $10,000 is set by the city, so there is no quote process.
Do I pay the $10,000? +
No. You pay $300. The $10,000 is the surety's maximum liability if a valid claim is made against the bond — not a deposit, and nobody holds your money.
How fast will I have the bond? +
License bonds like this are among the thousands of bond types that issue right after purchase — many contractors finish the application and have the bond in the same sitting. At most, 1–2 business days.
Is there a credit check? +
Not on this bond — the application has no credit section at all. Small fixed-amount city license bonds like this one don't need one.
When does it renew? +
The bond must stay active for as long as you hold City of Mobile permitting privileges. You can buy a 1, 2, or 3-year term; we send renewal notices 60 and 30 days out, with autopay available.
