Winthrop University is seeking proposals to acquire coverage for medical and dental accidents for its student athletes, providing Secondary Student Athletic Insurance and Primary Student Athletic Insurance when no primary insurance is in place.
The contractor shall provide a fully funded accident insurance policy covering all intercollegiate athletes for athletic years August 1, 2027 to July 31, 2028, with coverage for 14 intercollegiate sports, developmental team members, student managers, and student/intern/fellowship athletic trainers. The policy must include an annual aggregate limit of $1,000,000, a medical maximum of $90,000 per person per accident, a benefit period of 104 weeks, accidental death and dismemberment benefit of $25,000, and coverage for sports-related injuries, physical therapy, orthotics, ambulance services, and riders for expanded medical, HMO/PPO denial, pre-existing injury, and heart and circulatory coverage. The contractor must provide 100% paperless electronic claims processing, online claims status access, 24-hour response to questions and claims, and negotiate best rates for medical services. Deliverables include an annual itemized claims report and, upon request, an internal audit of the University's account. The contractor shall meet annually with the Contracting Officer Representatives, provide dedicated account representatives, and maintain service to beneficiaries with existing claims for up to three years after contract expiration.
