♦ The 17537 Tramonto Drive Bulkhead project site is located in the Castellammare area of the Pacific Palisades in Los Angeles, approximately 0.75 miles northwest of the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Pacific Coast Highway. At the project site, the existing timber bulkhead on the southwest (downslope) side of Tramonto Drive was damaged in the Palisades Fire. After additional tieback analysis, it was determined that a full bulkhead replace would be required. This project will mitigate the threat to public safety and restore lateral support the roadway by constructing a new bulkhead retaining structure downslope of the existing damaged timber bulkhead on Tramonto Drive.
♦ The new proposed bulkhead will be approximately 320 feet in length and will be constructed with cast-in-drilled-hole (CIDH) piles with steel wide flange beams and colored pre-cast concrete lagging. The project also includes installation of new asphalt concrete paving, 12-inch high concrete curb and gutter, pedestrian handrail and a metal beam guardrail, and regrading and one tree removal to widen the roadway. The existing wall will be substantially abandoned in place, and will require removal of all timber lagging, new drilled weepholes through existing shotcrete, and for the existing piles to be cut approximately 3’-6” below finish surface. Existing tiebacks are to be protected in place.
