Department of Conservation and RecreationIssuing agency·Massachusetts·via the Massachusetts COMMBUYS open-bids boardThe Department of Conservation and Recreation, Division of Water Supply Protection, announces the availability of grant funds to support the Wachusett Reservoir, Quabbin Reservoir, and Ware River watershed municipalities that contain more than ten miles of town roads within the watershed boundaries with efforts to utilize the latest and most efficient salt use reduction strategies.
Eligible project activities include the purchase of pavement temperature sensors for vehicles, equipment that allows calibrated/automated applications of salt, materials needed to enable brine production, materials to retrofit vehicles to apply brine, flexible plow blades to allow more effective removal of snow and ice from roadways, and materials to construct cover and containment for salt piles. Purchase of new vehicles, road salt or alternative anti-icing materials, or the cost of employee training are not eligible projects. Applicants must provide documentation of attempts to reduce salt use, including annual salt application amounts for the 2025-2026 season and the three previous winters. Grantees must submit a Final Report and a Grant Close-Out Form upon completion.
