The Merrimack Valley Planning Commission (MVPC) has assumed the procurement lead for a cooperative bid from qualified firms for Road Salt to include Rock Salt and Solar Salt on behalf of municipalities within Essex County: Amesbury,Boxford, Essex, Georgetown; Gloucester, Groveland; Hamilton, Haverhill, Ipswich, Lynnfield, Manchester by the Sea, Merrimac; Middleton, Nahant, Newbury; Newburyport; Peabody, Rockport, Rowley, Salem, Salisbury, Saugus, Swampscott, Topsfield, Wenham, and West Newbury.
The successful bidder(s) will supply and deliver road salt (rock salt and solar salt) to participating municipalities in Essex County. Deliveries must be made within 48 hours of a written order, or within 24 hours for emergency orders. The salt must conform to ASTM 632-12 standards, with a mixture of two-thirds ASTM rock salt and one-third solar salt. The contract covers estimated quantities of 79,050 tons of rock salt, 2,000 tons of solar salt, and 530 100-lb bags of calcium chloride. The contractor must provide a certificate of weight with each delivery, and the salt must be free-flowing and treated with an anti-caking agent. The contract is for one year from November 1, 2026, to October 31, 2027.
