The Science and Technology Mission Lab’s Arthropod Quarantine (AQ) Facility is a high security containment facility intended to support biological control programs, new insect strain developments, and invasive species testing. The facility consists of an AQ office, receiving lab, identification lab, three other laboratories, three main hallways, twelve walk-in environmental growth chambers (EGCs), two EGC walkways, a headhouse/potting area adjacent to five separately controlled greenhouses, extended greenhouse foyer, a pot and clothing washing area, storage area, lunchroom, emergency exit room, secured-access exterior autoclave room, interior autoclave room, separate male & female dressing rooms with showers, bathrooms, ante-room, sign-in room, and foyer. The facility needs major renovation. The project will upgrade mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems and refresh interior finishes.

The project consists of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and interior wall, ceiling and floor finish renovation to an existing quarantine facility. The base bid includes replacing air-cooled chillers, chilled water pumps, and facility chilled water piping; removing all 12 air handling units and replacing with 8 new; removing all 10 exhaust fans and replacing with 8 new; replacing all building DDC controls; replacing the steam boiler system including steam and condensate piping; removing abandoned mechanical piping; replacing acoustic ceiling tile and lighting; replacing the building roofing; door modifications and replacements; remodeling the entry and bathroom; installing new air curtains at laboratory access points; remodeling Laboratory 114; installing a new energy recovery makeup air handling unit; replacing flooring in lab rooms and head house; replacing casework and modifying electrical in laboratory rooms; and installing a hood and fan over the autoclave. Alternates include refinishing test rooms, repairing environmental growth chambers, and repainting the facility exterior.
