Code of Virginia § 8.01-537.1 requires the plaintiff, or someone for the plaintiff, to give a bond with approved surety (or a cash or property bond) when suing out an attachment or other pretrial levy or seizure, conditioned to pay all costs and damages from a wrongful levy or seizure. For a levy, the bond is at least the property’s estimated fair market value; for a seizure, at least double; a property bond is double in either case. The court sets the exact amount — confirm it on your order.
