SDCL 58-17E-20 requires each registered discount medical plan organization to maintain a surety bond of not less than $20,000, in favor of the director of the Division of Insurance and any person damaged by a violation of SDCL 58-17E-9, 58-17E-39, 58-17E-41, or 58-17E-45; the department may increase the amount case-by-case. SDCL 58-17E-21 allows a deposit of cash or securities worth at least $35,000 in lieu of the bond.
