About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the bond actually guarantees

Colorado regulates boxing, kickboxing, and mixed martial arts under the Colorado Professional Boxing Safety Act (C.R.S. 12-110-101 et seq.), administered by the Office of Combative Sports within the Division of Professions and Occupations (DORA). A promoter must submit proof of a surety bond to the Director before a scheduled event, with the Office of Combative Sports named as obligee.

The rules (4 CCR 740-1) tie the required amount to the purses and official fees for the event, as determined by the Director — so the figure can vary by event rather than being a single statutory number. The $10,000 amount on this page is a common level; confirm the amount the Director set for your event and we will match it.

The bond protects fighters and the state against a promoter who fails to pay purses, fees, or otherwise breaches the act. It is not insurance for you — if the surety pays a claim, you repay the surety. Send us your event requirement if you are unsure of the amount.

C.R.S. 12-110-101 et seq.; 4 CCR 740-1Colorado's Professional Boxing Safety Act (C.R.S. 12-110-101 et seq.) and the Office of Combative Sports rules (4 CCR 740-1) require a promoter to file a surety bond, with the Office of Combative Sports as obligee, in an amount the Director determines from the purses and official fees for the event. There is no single statutory bond figure; $10,000 is a common level. Confirm the required amount for your event with the Office of Combative Sports.

FAQs

Common questions.

If yours isn't here, the bond team can usually answer within the hour.

How much is the Colorado combative sports promoter bond? +
At the common $10,000 level the premium is $300 — a flat 3% of the bond amount. But the Director can set the required amount per event from the purses and official fees, so confirm your figure; the rate stays 3% of whatever amount applies.
Do I pay the $10,000? +
No. You pay $300 at the $10,000 level. The bond amount is the surety's maximum liability if a valid claim is made — it's not a deposit, and nobody holds your money.
Who requires this bond? +
The Office of Combative Sports, within DORA's Division of Professions and Occupations, under the Professional Boxing Safety Act (C.R.S. 12-110-101 et seq.). The office is named as obligee on the bond.
Why might my amount be different? +
The rules (4 CCR 740-1) tie the bond to the purses and official fees for your event, as determined by the Director — so the amount can vary by event rather than being a single statutory figure. Send us your requirement and we will issue to match.
Is there a credit check? +
Not on this bond — the application has no credit section. Promoter bonds at standard levels issue without one.
