The vast majority are a Westinghouse Modular type of escalators, which requires to use Rack and Axle to move the steps. The Westinghouse Rack and axle assembly is used to move escalator steps.
The Rack and Axle is driven by the Poly chain installed at the drive sprockets on both side of the geared machine. The Rack and Axle includes female and male section of laminates that are welded and riveted together. All joint bushings must be flush with laminates with a washer on each side with a split ring to secured them in place.
The objective is for contractor to provide the WMATA Office of Elevator and Escalator (ELES) material meet with the OEM and ASME A17.1 Code requirement
