The purpose of this project is to remove large piles of woody debris from the December 2025 windstorm. There are four piling areas located throughout Custer State Park. Piles range in size but can be as large as 295 feet long by 30 feet wide with a height of 15 feet. Piles contain limbs and needles as well as boles of large ponderosa trees. Custer State Park contracts may be entered into with more than one contractor as a result of this RFP.
Offerors may email inquiries concerning this RFP to obtain clarification of requirements. No inquiries will be accepted after the date and time indicated in the Schedule of Activities. Inquiries must be emailed to Sterling Smith at sterling.smith@state.sd.us with the subject line “RFP #26RFP19889”.
The State will to respond to offeror’s inquiries (if required) via e-mail. In addition, all inquiries and the State’s response will be posted on the state’s e-procurement system. Offerors may not rely on any other statements, either of a written or oral nature, that alter any specification or other term or condition of this RFP. Offerors will be notified in the same manner as indicated above regarding any modifications to this RFP.

The contractor will remove large piles of woody debris from four designated areas within Custer State Park. The piles, which can be as large as 295 feet long by 30 feet wide with a height of 15 feet, contain limbs, needles, and boles of large ponderosa trees. The contractor will both load and haul away the material, and is responsible for finding areas outside of Custer State Park to deliver the material. Units 1, 2, and 3 may be removed as soon as the contract is signed, but Unit 4 cannot be removed until November 1st, 2026. The contractor must also repair any resource damage identified by the contract administrator before payment is issued.
