About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the bond actually guarantees

South Carolina regulates boxing and other combat-sports events through the State Athletic Commission, under S.C. Code Title 40, Chapter 81 and Chapter 20 of the Code of Regulations. A promoter who stages a licensed boxing, kickboxing, MMA, or wrestling event must hold a $10,000 promoter bond.

The bond guarantees your adherence to the Commission’s rules — paying fighters and officials, remitting fees and taxes due, and honoring your obligations for the event. If you default on those, the harmed party can recover against the bond.

Note that some promoters who don’t carry the required accident and medical insurance for participants face an additional $10,000 bond — confirm on your Commission application whether one bond or two applies to your events. It is not insurance for you: if the surety pays a claim, you repay the surety.

S.C. Code Title 40, Chapter 81 (Athletic Commission)South Carolina combat-sports promoters are licensed by the State Athletic Commission under S.C. Code Title 40, Chapter 81 and Chapter 20 of the South Carolina Code of Regulations, which require a $10,000 promoter bond guaranteeing adherence to the Commission’s rules. A separate $10,000 bond may apply to promoters who do not carry the required accident and medical insurance for participants — confirm which applies on your Commission application.

FAQs

Common questions.

If yours isn't here, the bond team can usually answer within the hour.

How much is the South Carolina boxing promoter bond? +
The premium is $300 — a flat 3% of the fixed $10,000 bond amount, the same for every promoter. The $10,000 is set by the Athletic Commission’s rules, so there is no quote process.
Do I pay the $10,000? +
No. You pay $300. The $10,000 is the surety's maximum liability if a valid claim is made against the bond — not a deposit, and nobody holds your money.
Might I need a second bond? +
Possibly. South Carolina requires an additional $10,000 bond from promoters who do not carry the required accident and medical insurance for participants. If you carry that insurance, one bond is typically enough — confirm on your Commission application.
Is there a credit check? +
Not on this bond — the application has no credit section at all. Small fixed-amount license bonds like this one don't need one.
When does it renew? +
The bond must stay active for as long as you hold the promoter license. You can buy a 1, 2, or 3-year term; we send renewal notices 60 and 30 days out, with autopay available, so your license never lapses over a missed email.
