CT oversize/overweight bonds.
$275. Five minutes.

When Connecticut issues an oversize or overweight hauling permit, it can require a $2,000 bond standing behind the move under the C.G.S. 14-270 permit framework. At 3% the math lands below our floor, so it is $275 flat — the same for every hauler, with no credit check.

About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the permit bond actually guarantees

A hauler moving a load that exceeds Connecticut’s legal size or weight limits needs an oversize/overweight permit, administered under the C.G.S. 14-270 permit framework and its regulations. As a condition of certain permits, the state can require a $2,000 surety bond standing behind the move.

The bond guarantees that the permittee follows the permit conditions and does not damage the highway — pavement, bridges, structures, drainage, and other roadway features along the routed move. If the move causes damage the hauler does not pay for, the state can recover against the bond.

It is not insurance for you — if the surety pays for highway damage, you repay the surety. Whether a bond is required can depend on the permit type and route; confirm on your permit paperwork, and we issue the $2,000 bond to match.

C.G.S. 14-270 (oversize/overweight permits)Connecticut administers oversize and overweight hauling permits under the C.G.S. 14-270 permit framework and its regulations (Regs. of Conn. State Agencies 14-270). A $2,000 surety bond may be required in connection with a permit, conditioned on the permittee complying with permit conditions and not damaging the highway. Whether a bond is required depends on the permit; confirm on your permit paperwork.

FAQs

Common questions.

If yours isn't here, the bond team can usually answer within the hour.

How much is the Connecticut oversize/overweight permit bond? +
It is $275 — our flat minimum. The bond amount is $2,000, and 3% of that is $60, which is below our $275 floor, so the price is $275 flat for every hauler.
Do I pay the $2,000? +
No. You pay $275. The $2,000 is the surety's maximum liability if a valid claim is made against the bond — not a deposit, and nobody holds your money.
Do I always need this bond? +
Not for every permit. Whether a bond is required depends on the permit type and the routed move. Check your oversize/overweight permit paperwork — if a $2,000 bond is required, we issue it to match.
What does the bond protect against? +
It backs your compliance with the permit conditions and protects the highway — pavement, bridges, and structures — against damage from your move. If the state pays for damage you owe, you repay the surety.
Is there a credit check? +
Not on this bond — the application has no credit section at all. Small fixed-amount permit bonds like this one don't need one.
