About this bond

What it is and who needs it.

What the bond actually guarantees

Colorado registers waste tire haulers through the Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE). A hauler who transports waste motor vehicle tires must register and post a $10,000 surety bond as a condition of that registration.

The bond is a compliance-and-public-protection guarantee: it stands behind your obligation to transport and deliver waste tires properly under Colorado’s waste tire rules, so tires reach permitted facilities rather than being dumped. It is a three-party arrangement between you (the principal), the surety, and the state (the obligee).

It is not insurance for you — if the surety pays a claim, you repay the surety. Haulers who keep clean manifests and deliver to permitted facilities treat the bond as a registration formality.

Colorado Waste Tire program (6 CCR 1007-2)Colorado registers waste tire haulers through the Department of Public Health and Environment under the Waste Tire program, with rules at 6 CCR 1007-2 implementing the Waste Tire statutes at C.R.S. 30-20-1401 et seq. Registration as a hauler of waste motor vehicle tires requires a $10,000 surety bond. Confirm the current amount on your CDPHE registration application.

FAQs

Common questions.

If yours isn't here, the bond team can usually answer within the hour.

How much is the Colorado waste tire hauler bond? +
The premium is $300 — a flat 3% of the $10,000 bond amount, the same for every hauler. The $10,000 is set by the waste tire program, so there is no quote process.
Do I pay the $10,000? +
No. You pay $300. The $10,000 is the surety's maximum liability if a valid claim is made — not a deposit, and nobody holds your money.
Who requires this bond? +
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment requires it as a condition of registering as a waste tire hauler, under the Waste Tire rules at 6 CCR 1007-2.
Is there a credit check? +
Not on this bond — the application has no credit section at all. Small fixed-amount registration bonds like this one don't need one.
When does it renew? +
The bond must stay active while you hold the hauler registration. Buy a 1, 2, or 3-year term; we send renewal notices 60 and 30 days out, with autopay available, so your registration never lapses over a missed email.
